Well another year has closed on Children in Need collections – not just for the BBC but for us as well. For us, this year has been one to remember as our teams performing Faulty Towers The Dining Experience went across the UK collecting money for the 10th year running! That is a whole decade of making sure money is getting into the hands of this brilliant charity and the people who need it.
Every year we compete against our past selves, aiming to make more money than the previous year. This year was no exception, though admittedly we did set quite a task for ourselves as last year we raised just over £20,000!! Well, yet again, we hit the ground running and were able to smash it out of the park with a whopping £21,696.74 raised (excuse us while we quietly pat ourselves on the back)!
None of this would have been possible without the true stars of this whole process: the generous and beautiful people who come to our shows and donate to the cause. We couldn’t be more thankful for their input and know that nothing we do (the world-wide touring, the BBC Children in Need donations, the London residency… or anything else that makes this company and the work we do a dream) is even conceivable without them. So a very heart-felt thank you goes out to each and every audience member we have had.
Alison Pollard-Mansergh, the show’s artistic director (and first Sybil), recalls:
‘We started out simply by raffling off a gnome at Edinburgh Fringe in 2009. Now we collect over a 12-week period, at our major venues from after the Fringe onwards, right up until appeals night in November.
‘Audiences are incredibly generous. So hats off to them, and to all the actors who get involved too. We’re incredibly proud to be able to contribute to such a great charity in such a meaningful way.’
We’d love to give a big shout out to our participating venues this year:
– Principal Edinburgh George Street for the whole of Edinburgh Fringe
– Radisson Blu Edwardian Bloomsbury Street Hotel, our London Covent Garden residency
– Theatre Royal Nottingham
– The Shed, Glasgow
– Crowne Plaza Reading
– Old Course Hotel, St Andrews
– Petwood Hotel, Lincolnshire
